ONE OF THE MAIN CHARACTERS OF “EIGHT HEROES”: GUAN YU LOU/KWAN YUK LAU * (Played by LIU Song Ren / Damian LAU Chung Yan)
GUAN Yu Lou/KWAN Yuk Lau (alias: The Wild Poet and Superb Swordsman)
Yu Lou/Yuk Lau is 40 years of age, and is Tie Xin’s/Teet Sum’s senior fellow student, learning from the same teacher of martial arts. He has very good kung fu, as good as Tie Xin/Teet Sum. He has an undisciplined lifestyle; it is hard to get to know him because he travels all over the place, and comes and goes without a trace. Others describe him to be “I kill those whom the gods won’t kill; I take pity on those whom others won’t pity”.
He is multi-talented. He recites poetry, performs magic, and often brings surprises to people. On the surface, he is spoiled and wants his own way; in fact he is very focused in terms of love. He loves only one woman and she is his junior fellow student, Jing Rong/Ching Yung.
Yu Lou/Yuk Lau and Tie Xin/Teet Sum are not on good terms with each other. Yu Lou loves Jing Rong/Ching Yung, but she only loves Tie Xin. However, Tie Xin does not return Jing Rong’s love and breaks her heart. Because of this she becomes a nun. Seeing the way Jing Rong is treated, Yu Lou hates Tie Xin and swears to do everything to oppose Tie Xin – if Tie Xin goes east, he turns west; he is against everything which Tie Xin supports; whoever is Tie Xin’s friend is his enemy…. The bottom line is, he wants forever to argue with and annoy Tie Xin.
Later on in the story, Tie Xin asks for Yu Lou’s participation in serving in the “Heroes” cause. It is only after much persuasion, and a promise by Tie Xin to perform a task for Yu Lou, that Yu Lou finally agrees to help.
